About this deal

If you simply present yourself in your official role, the client is unlikely to want to reveal personal details about themselves. Carl Rogers believed that all individuals have the power to live to their own organismic valuing process. One of the other terms Rogers 'coined' was the 'organismic self', a reference to how an individual uses their thoughts and feelings to develop an emotional picture of who they are.

The self-concept does not always fit with reality, though, and how we see ourselves may differ greatly from how others see us. The only unpleasant thing about this recording is the verbal mentioning of all references within a sentence or at the end of a sentence. The narrative is very uninspiring and the teachings of the counselling is rather technical and something that I am not really interested in learning especially with the monotone voice of the speaker.Since then the book has supported and inspired hundreds of thousands of trainees and practitioners worldwide. Explain how the person-centred approach influences the understanding of the development of the concept of self. He judges and evaluates this image he has of himself as a bore, and this value will be reflected in his self-esteem. In this approach the client is given the tools and encouragement to make their own decisions and realize their own potential for growth.

Given the right relationship with the therapist, clients can decide what they want to do with their lives. Person-centred counselling originated in 1930’s and 40’s from the work of the American psychologist Carl Rogers. For most trainee counsellors and psychotherapists and, indeed, qualified and experienced practitioners too, there is a small number of ‘go to’ books that shout loudly above the noise. The therapist does not have a façade (like psychoanalysis); that is, the therapist’s internal and external experiences are one and the same. I shall discussing two other models, their key features and uses and compare and contrast with the person-centred model of counselling.Rogers (1961) rejected the deterministic nature of both psychoanalysis and behaviorism and maintained that we behave as we do because of the way we perceive our situation. The discussion of empathy, acceptance and congruence is central and should be required reading for all trainees working to understand the richness of these core concepts.
